In March, the Underwater Observatory planned for the end of the jetty, was towed to the site from Jervoise Bay where it had been constructed. It was to be sunk and anchored to the seabed in preparation for opening to the public in the spring. The creation of a $3.6 million attraction is testament to the quality of the underwater viewing beneath the jetty with over 300 known marine species recorded. The Underwater Observatory opened to the public in December and over 60,000 people visited in the first 6 months.
