The operation of the Busselton Jetty is managed by a community-run, not-for-profit organisation known as Busselton Jetty Inc, formerly the Busselton Jetty Environment and Conservation Association (BJECA).
The organisation was formed in October 1987, originally as the Busselton Jetty Preservation Committee.
Since this time, Busselton Jetty Inc has been successfully raising funds and implementing initiatives for the Jetty structure to ensure that future generations can also enjoy!
Without the dedication and passion of this voluntary committee and its community members, the Jetty would not be the tourism icon that it is today.
Eight years prior to the creation of BJECA in 1979, local resident John Bussell (alongside the Save Our Busselton Jetty Organisation) walked 151 laps of the Jetty in 14 days, covering over 580km to raise $5000 that ultimately saved the Jetty.
Local historian Judith Murray was commissioned to write a book on the people power that saved the Busselton Jetty. “Saving the Jetty” details the history and the ongoing struggle of the Busselton Jetty amidst events like Cyclone Alby in 1978 and a fire in 1999.
“Saving the Jetty” is now for sale in-person at the Busselton Jetty Interpretive Centre/Gift Shop, otherwise known as the “Blue Buildings”.
