From July 28 to August 9, Busselton Jetty is going bush—but we’re bringing the ocean with us!
Our team is heading north to deliver hands-on marine science education to the heart of the Pilbara, visiting Karratha, Dampier, Pannawonica, Tom Price, and Paraburdoo. This exciting outreach is part of our 2025 Pilbara Roadshow, a milestone initiative made possible through our long-standing partnership with Rio Tinto, who have supported the Busselton Jetty Environment Foundation (BJEF) since 2018.
Thanks to Rio Tinto’s generous support, we’ve expanded far beyond our iconic timber structure and turquoise waters—delivering school incursions, career programs, ROV marine monitoring, and livestreamed lessons to regional students across WA. Now, after the success of our virtual programs in 2023, we’re thrilled to bring our experiences face-to-face with Pilbara communities for the first time.

What’s in Store?
This year’s Pilbara Roadshow offers free marine science incursions for schools, packed with engaging activities designed to inspire future marine stewards—no matter how far they live from the sea. Through immersive learning, students will explore:
- How inland waterways connect to our oceans.
- The role of marine technology and how we use ROVs to explore underwater ecosystems.
- How they can contribute to marine research as citizen scientists.
- A stunning virtual dive beneath Busselton Jetty using VR headsets—bringing our vibrant reef and sculpture park to life in the middle of the outback!
And the fun doesn’t stop there! Our team will also be popping up at Karratha’s iconic FeNaClNg Festival on August 2nd and 3rd. Drop by to meet the crew, get hands-on with some of our marine tech, and even go in the draw to win some ocean-inspired prizes.

Why It Matters
Whether you live by the coast or kilometres from the nearest wave, the ocean is vital to us all. It provides over half the air we breathe, regulates our climate, and is home to countless species and ecosystems. Through the Pilbara Roadshow, we hope to spark a sense of wonder and connection—because a healthy ocean needs all of us, no matter where we call home.
This is A Sea of Discovery, on the road.
Because at the end of the day, Busselton Jetty is more than just a jetty—
It’s a living classroom, a gateway to the underwater world, and a reminder that when science, community and conservation come together, anything is possible.
