Alan Meyburgh’s addition to the Busselton Jetty Underwater Sculpture Park and Artificial Reef Project is the 2.5 tonne Southern Right Whale. Submerged 8 metres below the surface at the end of the Busselton Jetty, the ‘Southern Right Whale’ is a 10-metre long by 3-metre-high piece of art fabricated from 100% mild steel. This unique sculpture has been specifically created to maximise marine and reef growth while also acting as an under and above water viewing attraction.
Alan is a sculptural artist from Western Australia who has established himself locally as well as in Dubai and South Africa. He is known for his series of life-sized Megafauna sculptures and other artworks in the Margaret River Region. His work has been represented in numerous exhibitions, including Sculptures by the Sea in Cottesloe, Sculptures by the Bay in Dunsborough, and Margaret River Region Open Studios.
His artworks are displayed locally and internationally with collection of his sculptures held by the royal family of Dubai and Abu Dhabi. His ‘Southern Right Whale’ expands his art portfolio, now forever underwater at Busselton Jetty.
