‘The Shark and The Crab’ were a joint venture for the Busselton Jetty Underwater Sculpture Trail and Artificial Reef by Shaun Williamson and David Gaze (ShoreGaze). Inspired by local marine life, ‘The Shark’ measure 2.3m long by 1.4m wide and weighs 1.6 tonne, and ‘The Crab’ measures 2m long by 3m wide and weighs 1.8 tonne.
Each of these additions to the array of Underwater Sculptures at the Busselton Jetty are both made from 6mm and 10mm plates of mild steel, designed and cut using a brand-new splicing software from ShoreGaze.
The two pieces of art were welded together over 3 months and have been designed to maximise marine-life growth with both sculptures providing an ideal substrate for sponges, barnacles, and other marine species to live and grow on!
As mentioned above, ShoreGaze is an emerging, creative joint venture between Shaun and David, with Shaun specialising in ideas and concept and David specialising in program and design. They mainly create underwater structures, including artwork, underwater habitats/buildings, artificial reefs, floating gardens, and marine life habitats!
