David Barbour’s addition to the Busselton Jetty Underwater Sculpture Park & Artificial Reef is ‘The Lighthouse’ – a 2.8m high, 1.4m wide mild steel replica of the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse. This fascinating piece of Margaret River Art sits on a marine-grade concrete base that visually represents a rocky outcrop!
In creating this sculptural masterpiece – which now sits underwater among the other underwater sculptures – David sandblasted the mild steel back to its raw form to encourage marine-life growth. A variety of entry-points can be seen on ‘The Lighthouse’, which provide perfect habitats for the smaller marine creatures beneath the Jetty!
David is a Bunbury-based artist who specialises in timber carving. He often uses driftwood to enhance his pieces which are commonly reflective of his passion and love for the ocean. David has exhibited across WA since 1998 and in 2020 was announced as a winner of the People’s Choice Award at Sculptures by the Bay, Dunsborough.
