Jake Coghlan’s ‘The Seahorse’ is a fantastic addition to the Busselton Jetty Sculpture Park and Artificial Reef Project. Measuring at 3m tall and weighing 500kg, this mild steel sculpture is a replica of the West Australian Seahorse.
The torso of this piece of art has been constructed from hundreds of 10mm rods, welded together in a gabion structure over 6 months. Submerged among the other underwater sculptures, ‘The Seahorse’ sits above a seaweed habitat made from 12mm rebar and reused metal mill balls.
Jake is a sculpture artist from Donnybrook who specialises in a range of steel products. He is well-known in the region for his entries at Sculptures by the Bay in Dunsborough where he won the People’s Choice Award in 2017.
Jake runs the Old Coast Studio in Bunbury where many of his pieces are displayed, find more of his work on Instagram: @oldcoaststudio
