A 600kg Mermaid and 600kg Octopus, created out of mild steel is Daniel Fisher’s addition to the Busselton Jetty Underwater Sculpture Park and Artificial Reef. Each measuring 1m wide by 1m tall, and 1m wide by 2.2m tall respectively – the two creatures together make the singular sculpture known as ‘The Mermaid’s Muse’!
The sensational Octopus and Mermaid, that have now been added to the array of underwater sculptures at the Busselton Jetty, were welded together over 6 months, with the final sculpture made up of hundreds of individual mild steel rods that have been heated and bent to create the finished look. Each sculptural feature of this artwork has been designed to interact with the local underwater environment at the Jetty.
Daniel Fisher has been an artist his whole life, specialising in a range of different techniques and styles. He runs his own workshop in Margaret River and has lived in WA for 20 years, dedicating the last 10 to his intricate sculptures. He has also been added to the Sculpture by the Bay Honour Board for 3 consecutive wins amongst an extensive list of additional awards!
